1-22. Service Brake System Operation
The service brake system is an air-hydraulic system made up of the foot brake pedal,
pedal linkage, master cylinder, air-hydraulic brake cylinder, hydraulic lines to all wheels,
wheel cylinders, braked rums, and shoes. The master cylinder contains hydraulic fluid.
Pressure on the brake pedal is sent to the air-hydraulic cylinder. The air-hydraulic
cylinder increases pressure to the wheel cylinders. The wheel cylinders expand and press
the brakeshoes against the drum to slow or stop the vehicle.
